It is important to know why confidence is important. The self confidence is, in psychology, a term designating the judgment or assessment of an individual in relation to its own values. When a person does anything he thinks is good, it feels like a recovery and when evaluating its actions as being in opposition to its values, it reacts as “dropping in his esteem.” A multidisciplinary study on the factors of different states of health was conducted as part of a project conducted in 2002 to 2005 in three territories of Quebec (urban, suburban and rural), offering mixed checkups. Technical and methodological approaches (empirical approach, territorial approach) were used, such as GIS (Geographic Information System), field surveys, qualitative interviews (with actors), quantitative approaches (telephone surveys of 170 questions). During the past with a representative sample of the populations studied, the sense of control was measured using an index developed by Pearlin and Schooler (1978). The psychosocial indicators were recognized as one of the most relevant for the explanation of the social gradient in health. The territories which were selected were: 1) the city center, characterized by a population with low income, working 2) suburban, middle class, knowing devitalization and 3) rural, traditional society, ruralization. Most obvious differences are observed between the suburbs and the city center.
The results of the study demonstrate a link between the index of sense of control (which is equated with self-esteem) and health inequalities. In the city center, 24% of the population has a low sense of control. In the suburbs, it is estimated that the rate of feelings of control are higher. The situation of rural joined substantially that of the suburbs where the sense of control is strongest among those who have gainful employment. The fact of living in a place more than another would have an impact on the sense of control among people. Representations are images that define how people represent the environment in which they live. They have an influence on the psychosocial experience (questioning of self-esteem).
Suburb: positive representation.
Milieu Rural: positive representation. It is a medium that people have chosen population anchored by family ties and social ties which seem very strong.
Center, two trends stand out. The first cultivate a positive representation of middle and made by people who work there and the second grows negative representation involving people who have not chosen to live there but there are a constrained economic point of view (cost of living cheaper elsewhere). They do not develop a sense of belonging.
Some researchers have proposed a link between the living environment, the sense of control and construction of health inequalities based on qualitative information obtained during the interviews. Those most vulnerable and disadvantaged (physical, mental, sense of control) seem to be men 45 to 65 years, the city center and single-parent families, all territories combined (city center, suburbs and rural areas).
Low self confidence can lead to a lot of problems. An individual suffering from low self-esteem may show the following symptoms like heavy self-criticism, creating a habitual state of dissatisfaction itself or hypersensitivity to criticism, in which an individual feels easily, attacked and experience permanent resentment against criticism. Sometime chronic indecision is also experienced often as a result of exaggerated fear of making a mistake. Now that you know why confidence is important, you can boost your self confidence and lead a happy life.
